St Andrews Cross Spider

Description: Medium in size, Abdomen has yellow and brown stripes, legs are in the shape of a cross, males are small and are more pale in colour.

The St Andrews Cross spider makes a cross in its web and faces its head downward. The webs they make reflect ultra violet light which can attract insects to take a closer look. This also makes it obvious for larger prey to stay away making it a win, win scenario. They generally wrap their prey up in their silk before biting them as well. The females egg sac has a green tinge to it which is great for hiding the egg sac in or under green leaves. They are normally found out in the open and are harmless in general.

Life Span: 1 year.
